In April we had the pleasure of working with The Fountain Inn, Barnoldswick, to plan and publicise their St. George’s Day Gin Festival.
Although we’ve been working closely with Carol and her team on their marketing strategy and previous events for the past few years, this was their biggest event to date.
Our services included:
- Social Media advertising and promotion (Facebook & Twitter)
- Local press (Newspaper features)
- Market research
- Supplier liaison
- Design & printing collateral
Social Media Marketing
The Fountain Inn has a Facebook Page with a high level of engagement. With 1796 followers (as of 17/05/2017) and a healthy level of likes, shares and views, we knew that we would reach a large audience by advertising the Gin Festival via Facebook. We didn’t pay for any advertising for the Gin festival. The organic reach (i.e. we didn’t pay for advertising) peaked at over 7900 on Saturday 22nd April. The 10 days around the event saw the highest levels of engagement on the website compared to any other 10 day period.
Local News – Press Releases
To gain as much publicity as possible we wrote press releases to advertise the gin festival and sent them to the Craven Herald and other local newspapers and news websites. We also posted on local social media profiles with large numbers of local followers.
To help The Fountain decide which gins, mixers and cocktails to offer, we conducted both primary and secondary market research.
We visited with suppliers to ascertain which gins and mixers were their most popular for both trade and at-home drinkers. We also asked visitors to The Fountain what their favourite cocktails were. We carried out online research of well known mixologists and product reviews too.
We then created a list of gins and cocktails that would be on offer, all of which were very popular with attendees at the festival.
The St. George’s Dragon and When Life Gives You Lemons were two of the most popular drinks – excuse the photos, we weren’t quick enough before the thirsty punters started sipping!
We worked with several local suppliers to source local gins and drinks including The Wright Wine Company in Skipton and Batch Gin in Burnley. To accommodate the non-drinkers we also stocked Tee Total G+T from the Temperance Spirit Company.
Designing & Printing Collateral
All of the menus and graphics for the St. George’s Gin Festival were designed and printed by SBC Marketing as part of our design services.
